“[EWA Executive Director Charly Seale] has learned today that the USFWS intends to publish the final version of the new rule governing the “Three Species” (Addax, Scimitar Horned Oryx and Dama Gazelle) within the next few weeks. According to our sources there will be some type of permitting system but what and how it will be implemented is not certain at this time. Our sources also indicate that this final version has been somewhat overhauled to make it more breeder friendly but we cannot confirm that at this time.
We also believe that the new rule will not become effective for 30-90 days once it is publicized. The Exotic Wildlife Association is involved in litigation against the USFWS. We have filed a lawsuit on behalf of 13 EWA members in Federal court to challenge the endangered species classification and listing of these three species. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has failed to consider the Exotic Wildlife Association’s petition for delisting these animals and if it weren’t for their endangered status, the USFWS would have no jurisdiction over them thus no permits would be necessary.
[The EWA] is still fighting and is committed to stopping the FWS from implementing this new rule. There are still several avenues of remedy and we will not give up those potential remedies until we have exhausted every possible source. The success story of U.S. breeders, concerning these three species and others on the endangered list, is phenomenal and we will not simply give up and go away without a tremendous fight.
The EWA along with other associations have contacted our congressional members asking them to direct the USFWS to postpone any changes in the regulations governing these three species. Regardless, we are not giving up so we sincerely hope our members will stay vigilant and optimistic. Just because they have given notice of the final version of this rule’s publication does not mean it cannot be stopped.”

An addax was near the top of W.S. Allen's "buck-et list"
If asked, I’d tell everyone to make a list to hunt with. I do. The list insures I don’t forget anything. The list makes everything easier when finding what you need and a host of other reasons, all true. However, the real reason is so that I can day dream about the things on the list. Every hunter has a “list,” either in his head, written down on a scrap piece of paper, as wall paper on his computer, or in any one of a hundred other places of animals they would like to harvest and mount. The “list” that we day dream about every time we see it. The animals on the “list” we cherish and covet above all others.
The “list” includes any animal that produces that primal need deep within our souls and is usually prefaced by Pope and Young or Muy Grande. Whatever the animal might be, we need to see it, hunt it, harvest it, admire it, smile at it, and hang it in a place of honor.
Another wonderful thing about the “list” is that we get to cross off animals as we place them, with admiration and satisfaction, on the walls of our dens, living rooms, and offices.
I’d ventured to south Texas to scratch the Addax, an antelope from Saharan Africa, off my “list.” I was hunting on Mike Kissle’s, a good friend’s 3,000 acre ranch. The majestic Addax is very close to the top of my “list”. In its native land, there are only (more…)
