The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) is once again offering you a chance to win some amazing Texas dream hunts. From whitetail to waterfowl to ‘gator, these packages are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to hunt some of the most sought after game Texas has to offer. The ‘Texas Grand Slam’ will even afford one lucky hunter the chance to pursue whitetail, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, and mule deer! You might have guessed, but here’s our favorite hunt drawing:

Mason Mountain WMA Exotics
Two winners will experience the thrill of hunting African exotic game, right here in Texas on the famous Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area. Winners can take advantage of two exotic hunting opportunities for species including sable antelope, gemsbok oryx, scimitar-horned oryx or axis deer. Hunters may choose to shoot the exotic game with a modern rifle, muzzleloader, archery or crossbow. Winners can also bring along a companion to hunt exotic animals. Food and lodging will be provided as part of the hunting package at the scenic Mason Mountain WMA lodge. Taxidermy is provided for the two winners. Proceeds go to benefit wildlife conservation and research on Mason Mountain WMA.

Exotics have exploded onto the scene in Texas. Since their introduction to South Texas in the 1930s, non-native species have grown from a mere 13,000 in the 1960s (est. by The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department) to population estimates that range from 275,000 to well over 1 million.
…there could be over a million free-ranging exotics in the Hill Country alone.
Much of their success in this state has come from a growing hunting industry, high reproductive rates, and an innate ability to adapt. The YO Ranch, founded as a cattle ranch in 1880, persists today because of the revenues generated from exotic hunting.
“We can’t make enough on cattle to survive anymore”, says Eric White, hunting manager for the YO. “If not for exotics, this ranch would not be in existence today.”
Ranches and landowners are finding exotic hunting a viable option to cattle production and a way to profit year-round where they are limited to 4 to 5 months a year for whitetail hunting.
