Trophy Room Spotlight: Braden Shields’ 9-pt Axis
Fourteen year old, Braden Shields, was luck enough to harvest this amazing non-typical axis buck in Kimble County, Texas.
Kimble County is located in the heart of the exotic hunting mecca, known as the “Hill Country” of Texas. There are thought to be more exotics per acre in this area of the Lonestar State, than any other place on earth! Braden’s buck is beyond a unique trophy. Though velvet antlered bucks are commonly harvested, taking a 9-POINT axis buck in velvet is anything but common! Most axis have 6 typical points growing up, back and out above the deer’s head. Every so often, you will see 1 or 2 extra points growing just above the browtines, but 3 extra points is very rare. This was Braden’s first ever axis…that’s quite a start, Braden! Congrats on a super exotic trophy!

Chase Lambin was able to connect on this fantastic axis buck, his first axis ever. Chase is currently playing professional baseball, as an infielder for the Minnesota Twins. He took his trophy axis on a family friend’s private ranch near Rocksprings, Texas on December 20, 2010. The buck scores 146″ SCI, which qualifies as Silver in the SCI Record Books (and merely 2 inches from being Gold)! During the hunt, Chase also narrowly missed harvesting a monster blackbuck. As a result of the weekend hunt, Chase admitted that he’d officially caught the “exotic bug”. Thanks for sharing, Chase, and continued success on the field and in the woods!

Rusty Baker's blackbuck
Be prepared for some fireworks when the crew of Rusty Baker Outdoors invades Porter’s Exotics. Yesterday’s trophy pics from the ranch are the proof! RBO host, Rusty Baker, was able to connect on a beautiful 21″ blackbuck antelope and Jeff Edwards of College Station was successful harvesting a tremendous sika deer. (Jeff must have been in a hurry to get back to town because the only pics we got were of his guide and ranch foreman, CP Wade posing w/his deer!) Look for both of these hunts to be
featured on the Rusty Baker Outdoors TV Show next season.

Our “1st Family of Exotics”, the Witwens, did it again!
Mark Witwen took this great sika buck last weekend at the family lease located near Kerrville, Texas. This is a bronze class sika. Congrats on a great sika, Mark!
